In 2002 Peter and Debbie Gardiner travelled around Australia with their four children, Peter's mother and their dog in tow, looking for the perfect motel to buy.
It’s no great surprise that a motel set on a large, landscaped garden area with a premier golf club on one side and a beach on the other, just up the road from Merimbula airport and centrally located between the bustling centres of Merimbula and Pambula, took their fancy.
They are still at their multi-award winning Fairway Motor Inn and are as passionate and dedicated as ever to welcoming guests to their piece of paradise. “We are continually updating things and making sure our rooms are comfortable, modern and feel like a home away from home,” Debbie says.
Some of the features that attracted them to the four-star accommodation retreat remain their favourite aspects. “We love the larger rooms and how open and light-filled they are. There is also plenty of space on the grounds to park boats, trailers and all the things people like to bring here to take full advantage of our bike and walking tracks, beaches, lakes and golf courses.”
Debbie says many of their guests book from year to year and they have regular group bookings for golf, fishing, weddings, whale watching and adventure tours. “People love the barbecue and outdoor setting by the pool and there are plenty of grassed areas where people can gather on the lawns for a picnic or end of day catch up. We often have family groups come and they really love being able to come back here after a busy day at the beach or shopping and all relax together and wind down.”

GROUNDS AND MAINTENANCE
One of the key features that excited Peter was the tropical and bush gardens, and spends most of his time keeping them in immaculate condition.
“We get a lot of compliments on our garden and that makes me feel very proud of what we’ve created here for people who are wanting to relax and enjoy the beautiful Sapphire Coast,” Peter said.
