Autumn is for flowering gums and brightly-coloured coastal birds, cool mornings, stunning sunrises and sunsets and sun shiny days. Merimbula is well known for its rainbow lorikeets and there is a special street around the Fishpen area lined with Australian native trees and shrubs which they love!!

The Sapphire Coast is the perfect place to enjoy a change in weather, where it's still warm enough for a swim and cool enough for long bushwalks through surrounding national parks. There are easy, short walks as well as more challenging and longer walks, as well as some of the best mountain bike tracks around! January in Merimbula has been absolutely sensational, ending on a real high on Australia Day with our community's Australia Day Float.

This is a tradition that we think started in 1999 or thereabouts with just a few people and has since grown to thousands of people gathering at Merimbula bridge to jump in and follow the tide all the way to Spencer Park, where everyone gathers for a barbecue, games and celebrations of how lucky we are to live in this beautiful part of the world.

This year the float went all day as people followed the tide out at 6am, in at 1.30pm then out again at 5.30pm. We followed it along and created a reel on our Instagram and Facebook pages - if you haven't seen it already, check it out!!
